Martin Luther

The exhibition on local history in the Cultural History Museum illustrates Magdeburg as a propaganda centre of the Reformation.

Especially worth a visit are the folios of the Magdeburg Centuries, the first Evangelical ecclesiastical history, the production of which was initiated by Matthias Flacius in Magdeburg.

Two special exhibitions present Magdeburg as a remembrance of the Reformation:

6th November 2014 – 15th February 2015
Everyday Life and Religiousness on the Eve of Reformation in Central Germany

In this special exhibition, Magdeburg Cultural History Museum will present a unique selection of previously virtually unknown works of art and everyday objects related to religiousness in central Germany in the 15th century.

3rd September 2017 – 28th January 2018
Against the Emperor and Pope - Magdeburg and the Reformation

On 31st October 2017, the publication of Luther’s Theses against indulgences will celebrate its 500th anniversary. In light of this occasion, Magdeburg Cultural History Museum will showcase the city of Magdeburg as a special historical location for German Lutheranism.
