Over the last few years, Magdeburg's museums have organised many unique exhibitions where a great deal of national as well as international interest has been sparked.

Kulturhistorisches MuseumNew, comprehensive and very valuable collections were set up, impressive new exhibits were added to old collections and in the 1990s the new Museum of Technology was founded, yet another highlight of the Magdeburg museum scene.

There is much to offer for every age and interest such as the Cultural History Museum which displays many exhibits on the history of Magdeburg and its region and is dedicated to a collection of exhibits relating to the Land of Saxony-Anhalt. Another attraction is the Art Museum in the Monastery of Our Lady which is home to an impressive exhibition featuring 20th century sculptures. Always worth a visit is the Lukasklause which hosts the Otto von Guericke Museum dedicated to the life and work of the famous Lord Mayor of Magdeburg and scientist.

Museum of Nature

The origin of the oldest museum of the capital city dates back to the Magdeburg Society of Natural Science which was founded in 1869. For a start, collections were shown to the public in the premises of the Realgymnasium (high school) in Brandenburger Strasse in 1875.

Within the old walls of the Lukasklause building, which boasts an octagonal tower that was first mentioned in the 14th century, you can view historic replicas, pictures and documents, as well as live experiments, that will give you an insight into the life and work of Otto von Guericke (1602-1686). The Guericke Centre was opened in 2010.

Museum of Technology

Magdeburg's Museum of technology can be found in a factory hall once occupied by the heavy machinery combine «Ernst Thälmann« (today SKET). The hall was built in 1871 as a new production plant for the Hermann Gruson Factory.

Magdeburg Moritzplatz Memorial

Circus Museum

The «Abtshof Bunte Circuswelt» in the Buckau district of the German city of Magdeburg was opened in August 2009. The old entrepreneur's mansion owned by the machine factory run by Rudolf Wolf and located on the site of the company Abtshof GmbH is now home to Magdeburg's first circus museum.
