Stadthalle Magdeburg

Where else in Germany can you enjoy such a wonderful setting? The Stadthalle, Magdeburg's civic hall, boasts a stunning location in the heart of a park situated in the middle of an island directly in the city centre.

The hall was constructed in the style of the “Neues Bauen” modern architecture movement in 1927 for use as a show centre on the banks of the river Elbe on the occasion of the German Theatre Exhibition. It has hosted a wide range of events such as classical concerts, theatre performances, musicals, revues, ballets, galas, sports shows and more recently, of course, rock and pop concerts ever since.

The Stadthalle’s scenic island location has also enabled it to impress a multitude of visitors as a venue for large conferences and congresses. It boasts a seating capacity of approximately 2000 and can host standing concerts for crowds of around 4000 people.

Open-Air Events

"This is one of the most stunning open-air venues in Germany”, declared Fritz Rau, a renowned German music promoter, enthusiastically when he first saw the Stadthalle’s open-air site in the “Stadtpark Rotehorn” city park. He then even added to this praise by stating that: “The Rotehorn Park is our Bayreuth.”

The Stadtpark Rotehorn enables people to come together under open skies to enjoy festivals and open-air concerts. It is a traditional venue that always succeeds in providing visitors with an exciting new experience. Singers such as Peter Maffay, Joe Cocker and Herbert Grönemeyer have all performed in the park and enjoyed enthusiastic crowds of 20,000 at their Magdeburg concerts. In fact, a concert experience in the park is again best summed up by the words of Fritz Rau: “As night begins to slowly fall in the Stadtpark Rotehorn, nature makes its way onto the stage and leaves its mark on the choreography of the concert.” Another important benefit of the park as an open-air venue is the successfully tested parking guidance system in place throughout the city of Magdeburg for large-scale events.

One of the park’s outstanding areas for open-air performances is an open space located right next to the Stadthalle that has been used for events such as Caught in the Act’s farewell concert, performances by Jethro Tull and the Chinese State Circus, a Happy Family Festival and the production Carmina Burana, to name but a few.
