The lake's waters currently cover an area of 120 hectare and are directly connected to the Elbe-Havel Canal (via a lock leading to the river Elbe) and the “Niegripper Altkanal” canal.

The campside Niegripper See offers activities such as motorboating, sailing, surfing, fishing and many more. The northern end of the lake is also home to a swimming area with a special section for non-swimmers that is particularly popular among children. Other attractions at the lake include a volleyball court, a children's playground and an educational nature trail. You can also explore Niegripper Lake by using one of a number of cycle routes surrounding its waters or by visiting the bird sanctuary area located along its south bank.
