In fact, the church belonged to the fishermen's village of Frose just outside the protection of the city walls Ė the city area did not extend to the church in the 11th century and its fortified tower was meant to defend the villagers. Around 1830, the church's Romanesque nave was transformed into a Gothic style nave, however the western tower with its vaulted windows in the bell chamber remained in its old Romanesque guise.

The lower levels of the tower create an impression of massive stonework, but in the lofty upper levels it features some interesting architectural details such as exceptionally beautiful friezes fitted in round arches at the top of the towers. In addition, you can enjoy the modern glass paintings in the interior of the church.
